Program areas at Capacitar
General Program: In 2022 Capacitar programs nationally and internationally served thousands of people from 15 countries and 4 US states. Because of the popular education methodology, local teams multiplied the teachings so that many thousands more received the benefit of learning the Capacitar practices in all of the countries served.Capacitar International continued to convene in February and October 2023 Global Gatherings in English and in Spanish with over 400 participants to share practices, teachings and experiences and to connect teams from different countries.Response to Climate Disasters and Gender Violence Healing: Zoom or internet outreach Trauma Trainings were offered by Capacitar teams in Indonesia and the Philippines in response to the various disasters. In African countriesDR Congo, Rwanda and Tanzaniatrauma healing trainings were offered to women and youth who are dealing with trauma and gender violence. Outreach also continued in Mexico to heal gender violence. Zoom Trainings and Refugee Accompaniment continued to be offered in the USin Tucson, AZ, in Mexicali MX at Border Compassion Center and at the Texas, Mexico border in El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. Workshops were offered at refugee centers in Ireland, collaborating with Glencree Center in the Wicklow Mountains and in Dublin. Zoom 4-Module Trainings involved participants from the US, the UK, Europe and other countries.
National Program: California: In 2023 Capacitar continued to offer the following programs in California. Four-module Multicultural Wellness Trainings were completed via Zoom with participants coming from local organizations, work with the elderly and disabled, schools, teachers, mental health programs, womens groups, youth at risk, work with refugees and indigenous people, and outreach to refugees, immigrants and the needy in Southern California. Zoom support groups were offered several days a week to respond to the needs of persons impacted by the pandemic and ongoing stress. Advanced Training was help at Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Encino. Trainings via Zoom continued at the US/Mexico border (El Paso/Juarez) coordinated by Capacitar en la Frontera for persons working to heal the violence and trauma of the region, work in detention centers and with refugees. Trainings were offered in Tucson AZ, through El Rio Health Center and the Capacitar Arizona team focused on self-care for doctors, nurses and professionals working with local clinics, children and youth at risk. Study groups continue to meet and do outreach in Tucson.
International Program: In 2023, Capacitar International teams facilitated hundreds of workshops for thousands of people in person and via Zoom technology with many more thousands benefiting from the popular education multiplier effect. Trainers offered workshops in the following places: the USA (California, Texas, New York and Arizona), Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panam, Argentina, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, Germany, Israel, Japan, The Philippines, Indonesia, Afghanistan and parts of Africa. Over 3,251 direct participants were either grassroots leaders or professionals who work with communities and organizations who are committed to healing and transforming people impacted by stress, political and domestic violence, natural disasters, trauma and illness (COVID, cancer, HIV/AIDS and disabilities). Manuals and training materials were produced, published and translated, including updating of Trauma Healing & Transformation (English and Spanish versions 25th Anniversary). The Capacitar website continued to be updated to offer materials and videos, and make available many more healing resources in 41 different languages. A new manual Integrative Tools for Healthcare Professionals was written and published in collaboration with El Rio Health in Tucson Arizona.
