Program areas at Cape Abilities

Residential program - the residential program is a satellite residential program for disabled adults in locations across Cape cod. The program strives to maximize an individual's integration into the community and promote less restrictive living by improving social recreation and independent and supervised living skills.
Shared living - an important alternative to group homes, the shared living program matches adults with disabilities with families or individuals (providers) who want to share their home. Providers support individuals with transportation, community involvement and other activities of daily living like personal care, cooking and money management. This living arrangement provides structure for development, growth and change, and also new ideas about what makes a family, and find sharing their home incredibly gratifying.
Employment and training program - the employment and training program prepares individuals for more integrated employment utilizing enclaves and independent competitive settings throughout the community. Service elements include paid work, vocational counseling, supported employment and training. It also provides for intensive levels of support to individuals to prepare them to function in a less restrictive environment and increase their self-sufficiency through use of modern techniques and equipment including work samples, paid work, community integration and other activities.
Other programs include:life skills day habilitation: offered at our hyannis lyndon center, our life skills/day habilitation program provides therapeutic-based activities to enhance wellness and independence for individuals who need more structure in order to succeed. As a community-committed program, it offers a variety of volunteer and social activities as well as physical exercise, arts and cultural events that are planned to meet each individual's service plan goals. Physical and occupational therapy and speech and language supports are integrated into the daily program offerings.transportation services: access to reliable transportation is a key component of living an active, integrated life for people with disabilities. Since Cape cod has limited options for public transportation, our transportation program is crucial in enabling Cape Abilities to fulfill its mission. Cape Abilities provides an extensive transportation service to hundreds of our disabled adult program participants across Cape cod. Our wheelchair-lift and passenger vans travel routes across Cape cod daily to help Cape Abilities participants in our day and employment programs get to and from their daily program, employment, community resources and activities.individual supports (is): our individual supports (is) program provides individuals with one-on-one service, focusing on fostering independence and teaching the skills to thrive in the community and at home. Working at the individual level allows for support that is highly tailored and personalized to each individual's needs and interests.
