Program areas at Capital Area Community Action Agency
Head start program - monitored by the department of health & human services Capital Area Community Action agency is the grantee for 5 head start centers (21 classrooms) operated in franklin, jefferson and leon counties. All centers operate for 180 days each term, based on the public school calendar for each county. The head start program had 342 children during the 2022/2023 school year. The following information is a summary of the services provided during 2022/2023: 391 children received medical examinations, 40 children received treatment for chronic health conditions, 94 children had dental examinations, 387 children received "growth assessments", 276 children received "vision screenings", and 276 children received "hearing screenings".
Community service block grant program- monitored by the Florida department of economic opportunity, Capital Area Community Action agency was able to service 1,603 households with books, supplies, tools, uniforms, childcare, licenses fees and weather related/disaster assistance during the 2022-2023 fiscal year. The program served people in eight counties: 273 in calhoun, 561 in franklin, 190 in gadsden, 72 in gulf, 12 in jefferson, 924 in leon, 102 in liberty, 125 in wakulla.
Low-income home energy assistance program - monitored by the Florida department of economic opportunity through the low-income home energy assistance program (liheap), Capital Area Community Action agency was able to service 13,838 people, which consisted of 5,576 households, during the 2022-2023 fiscal year eight counties were served, with the breakdown being 795 households in calhoun, 360 households in franklin, 408 households in gadsden, 220 households in gulf, 268 households in jefferson, 3,113 households in leon, 229 households in liberty, and 183 households in wakulla.
