CULINARY EDUCATION AND SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION - Across C-CAP's 6 regions - Arizona, Chicago, DC/Maryland, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, and Philadelphia/Camden - C-CAP works with 22,000 underserved youth annually, to help them pursue educational and professional opportunities via the pathway of culinary arts. These students come from a range of ethnic backgrounds and are often low income and facing the challenges of poverty. C-CAP culminates its school year program with culinary competitions, awarding more than $2 million in scholarships annually and $71 million since inception. Hundreds of previous scholarship winners have gone on to distinguished careers in the culinary field and beyond.
ADULT PROGRAMMING - In fiscal 23, C-CAP expanded its programming beyond youth to include training adults. The first program of this new initiative involved running six-week culinary training and food safety courses for formerly incarcerated individuals. The Fortune Society, a separate nonprofit, sponsored the program, selecting the participants and providing wrap-around services.
JOB TRAINING, CAREER ADVISING, INTERNSHIPS AND APPRENTICESHIPS - To help students find the avenue best suited to their interests and abilities, C-CAP facilitates career exploration activities, designed to expose students to the many possible careers available to them, via job shadows, boot camps, and field trips. Our Career Awareness program focuses on in-classroom demonstrations and presentations, career days, employer workplace tours, and college campus tours as well as a comprehensive summer job training and internship program. C-CAP also serves as an official US Department of Labor apprenticeship intermediary, matching students with employers for full-year, paid apprenticeships.
