Program areas at Carol Jean Cancer Foundation
Premier program - camp friendship, a sunday through friday summer camp offered several times throughout the summer, is for kids who have Cancer. It's designed especially with their needs in mind.however, in 2022 Carol Jean Cancer Foundation and medical personnel decided not to operate an overnight camp for children ages 6-18 suffering with Cancer. Reasons for this decision were significant. Ongoing covid 19 impact remained active, with health complications, especiatly for children with health risks. Hospitals and medical personnel (doctors, nurses, medical support teams), special medical supplies, specialists, food, bedding, camp staff and counselors, etc. Were all needed for each session. During the covid 19 outbreak, a shortage of everyone and everything was significant. Thus after over 25 years of operation, the decision was made for camp friendship, in summer 2022, to remain inactive.
Altair vision is a wish program that gives parents and family a helping hand fulfilling a special dream for their terminally ill child sickened with Cancer. The wish fulfilled program gives happiness and memories for the each family and an opportunity for the entire family to share together in a special dream.
The seashell connection is a hotline that brings together a recently diagnosed child and a child with at least one year of dealing with the same type of Cancer. The understanding of another young person who shares the same experience can be one of the most comforting voices in an ill child's life and a welcome outlet for discussing the feelings and fears that may be difficult to discuss with parents and medical professionals. There are hospitals around the area with pediatric oncology wards that often connect families with the cjcf support program.
