This was the second phase building from the 2021 partnership with the southern oral history program. The funds supported a professional documentarian to capture the stories, lessons learned and images of a retirement community successfully navigating the covid-19 pandemic. The documentary film was titled "for the common good . . . In uncommon times." It was shared with our not-for-profit ccrc peer communities for educational purposes. The Foundation has an employee education fund which was used to help pilot a certified nursing assistant (cna) scholars program to benefit Carolina Meadows, Inc. The Foundation provided an award to Carolina Meadows which provided support for four employees to train as certified nursing assistants, working as companions until they completed their cna certification. At that time, the scholars began work as cnas in various settings across the Carolina Meadows campus. It was also a partnership with central Carolina community college and their state-of-the-art new chatham health services center located close to Carolina Meadows. The program used a unique approach to address a critical shortage for cnas, connected new cnas with retired resident nurses and benefitted residents across our entire community. The pilot workforce development program was successful, and Carolina Meadows, Inc. has since operationalized the program without Foundation support.the Foundation has an employee emergency fund which was used for an employee emergency assistance program. This program helps employees with unexpected critical expenses that affect their ability to work and/or their safety and wellbeing. In 2022, more than twenty employees received essential support through this program. These financial awards were made directly to businesses to cover employee expenses related to housing, utilities, health care and transportation costs.the Foundation helped to create a new amenity on the campus of Carolina Meadows, Inc. called the memorial grove. It was a resident-initiated project which came to fruition through the Foundation and private gifts to the Foundation. The memorial grove provides a place of beauty and solitude for the remembrance of residents of Carolina Meadows who choose to have their names memorialized and/or designate memorial grove as the final resting place for their ashes. The memorial area is accented with four curved stone walls and uses a pedestal back plate system for personalzied name plaques. The memorial grove now serves as a restful and peaceful place of remembrance and meditation for those loved ones who have passed before us. The Foundation also accepted donations for specific funds that enhance the community, including support of employee team members and continued to broaden the community reach.
