CREATIVE REUSE: At The Refindery reuse thrift store, useable items donated by the public and/or diverted trom the trash were sold support recycling and community outreach programs. Items sold include used household goods, furniture, small appliances books and other media, electronics, building materials, tools and fixtures. Customers included medium and low Income familles artists, bargain hunters, ‘do-it-yourself’ craftsmen and seasonal visitors. This program service closed We continue to encourage reuse as the preferred method of disposal through creative displays, events and promotions. We rent durable dinnerware, linens and utensils to the public at low cost to reduece the disposable items used at community events In 2018, approximately 1,000 meals were served using our durabletableservice
RECYCLING SERVICES: We encouraged recycling by intercepting and diverting recyciable materials from trash and through ongoing engagement with the public. Households and businesses dropped off paper, plastics, metals, glass, paint, electronics yard debris and other recyclable materials, which they separated Into 40+ categories to maximize value when marketed to brokers and other recycled material buyers. We took great pride in managing our ‘source segregated’ method of recycling to eliminate the contamination that plagues single-stream recycling systems in calendar year 2018, we recycled 50.2% of the waste materials passing through our facility. TRANSFER STATION: CARTM managed the Manzanita Transfer Station for Tillamook County under a franchise agreement that was terminated by the County in December Households and businesses self-hauled trash to our facility. Customers were actively encouraged to separate reusable and recyclable materials from trash to eliminate waste, and to save them monry on disposal fees. This reduced the amount sent to the landfill and retained the Intrinsic value of already-manutactured materials. CARTM staff also diverted materials from unsorted trash loads Tillamook County paid CARTM a fee to operate the facility, as well as incentive fees for collecting certain materials on behaif of the County.
