Program areas at Cascades Humane Society
Cascades Humane Society ("chs")adopted more than 1,200 animals into their forever homes in the current fiscal year. In addition to adoptions, chs provides the community with unique services. Our low cost spay and neuter services (snap) for owned animals means pets are being sterilized that may not have been otherwise. This not only prevents unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, but it also keeps the owned animal healthier and happier. We also offer services at the time of surgery such as vaccines, microchips, and disease tests. The forgotten feline program (a tnr program) assists kind-hearted people care for the free- roaming or feral cats. We will spay and neuter the cats and give each a rabies vaccine. Lastly, we are proud to offer a pet food pantry that feeds the pets of families who are going through financial hardships, distributing more than 6,000 pounds of food this year. This keeps pets in their homes where they belong because a family does not need to make a difficult decision between feeding their pet and paying their bills. During the current fiscal year, chs spayed or neutered more than 1,000 owned animals and nearly 200 cats through our forgotten feline program. In addition, chs spayed or neutered nearly 1,200 animals prior to adoption.
The pet food pantry program is set up to provide pet food to jackson county residents who are having difficulty meeting the nutritional needs of their cat or dog due to a current financial burden. For any jackson county resident to be eligible for this program, they must qualify as low income, be a current participant in a state/federal assistance program, or be experiencing financial hardship due to their current economic situation. This program exists on donations from the community, and the pet food pantry program is intended to supplement an eligible resident's monthly supply of pet food, and not a sole source of their pet's nutritional needs. In the current fiscal year, chs distributed more than 6,000 pounds of cat and dog food to the jackson community.
