Program areas at Cascadianow
CascadiaStrong: CascadiaNow! (CN!) offers administrative support to charitable grassroots projects through the fiscal sponsorship model. This program provides concierge services to projects which further our mission but often lack the resources, knowledge, or desire to obtain and maintain independent 501(c)3 status. Once vetted for mission alignment and formally adopted by the CN! Board of Directors, fiscally sponsored projects benefit from bookkeeping, financial and administrative services, publicity on CN! communications channels, networking opportunities with other projects and their volunteers, and a wide array of consulting services tailored to specific project needs. in its sixth year, our fiscal sponsorship program proudly housed 21 projects. These projects are led by the project leaders who operate their programs largely on a volunteer basis, and in combination, oversaw over 3,000 volunteer hours. Project leaders come from diverse backgrounds, and are often from the communities served through their project operations through five broad approaches to community betterment: Arts & Culture, Community Connectedness, Education, Health & Wellness, and Stewardship. CascadiaNow projects in 2023 included: Finney Farm Seed Distro, a project supporting food sovereignty in the Cascadia Bioregion by growing, packaging, and distributing organic, open pollinated seed at no charge to increase food access and biodiversity; and Sign Sign Mural Project, a project that envisions a world that is better for everyone, all while being more accessible for those who are deaf and/or have other disabilities
Bioregionalism for social and economic resilience: CN! promotes greater community connectedness through bioregionalism. First, CN! utilizes its large social network, including over 22,000 Facebook followers and 5,700 newsletter subscribers, to promote Cascadian individuals and organizations in their own community-building pursuits. A monthly e-newsletter provides Cascadians with information about community events, organizational updates, and upcoming fiscally sponsored project events. CN! encourages a stronger more sustainable, and local economy through our online store. In 2023 we continued our strong partnership with regional businesses, artists and organizations who share our values. Whenever possible, we choose sustainable, ethically-sourced, and locally-made products that celebrate an inclusive and unified Pacific Northwest to further our mission of fostering a recognizable culture of bioregional sustainability. We also offer books, maps, and other educational materials in our store to provide Cascadians with affordable - and even free! - resources to learn the history, geology, hydrology, and ecology of the bioregion.
