Catholic Charities of the archdiocese of St. Louis (ccstl) will be a premier leader in community renewal and a visible catalyst for social outreach by connecting with people, parishes, and ministries committed to a meaningful communion of care to those in need across every square mile of the archdiocese of St. louis.as one ministry, the central office of ccstl provides services in human resources, philanthropy, integrated marketing & communications, advocacy support, operations, community outreach, quality and care. Ccstl also provides direct and indirect financial support to the ministries, including $0.2 million direct funds, $0.7 million "pass-through" grants and $2.2 million in-kind centralized services during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2023.
Ccstl is one of the St. Louis region's primary providers of disaster response services, specializing in long-term case management for households impacted by natural disaster such as tornados, floods, earthquakes and other disasters that are declared such by the federal government. In fiscal year 2021, ccstl was awarded a three-year Catholic Charities usa disaster operations agency capacity initiative grant. Funds are being used to expand ccstl's capacity to prepare and respond to natural disasters by assessing community vulnerabilities, with a focus on helping rural communities establish disaster plans; creating an organizational disaster structure; and training existing staff in disaster response.in july of 2022, major flooding impacted residents in St. Louis city, St. Louis county and St. charles county. Ccstl participated in 6 regional multi-agency resource centers (wentzville, florissant, university city, and 3 in St. Louis city) directly connecting with 458 affected individuals and providing $53,200 in financial assistance to address community unmet needs as a direct result of the flood. Additionally, ccstl was awarded a fema disaster case management program in tandem with the salvation army - midland division to assist those who were impacted by the july 2022 floods in St. Louis city, county and St. charles county. As of june 2023, ccstl staff outreached over 2,000 people who still reported needs due to the 2022 flooding.
Pathways to progress, a ccstl-st. francis community services joint program, strengthens families to increase their ability to live safe, productive, sustainable lives; educates and supports families to make effective decisions that positively impact their future; and advocates for systematic and progressive change. This is achieved through long-term (2 to 3 years) personalized case management, legal aid, financial education, employment guidance and access to services from other ccstl ministries and community partners. In fiscal year 2023, pathways' two offices served St. Louis city (north and south) and north St. Louis county. As of june 30, 2023, 66 families were enrolled in the program. Twenty of these families were preparing to graduate, joining the 28 alumnae who successfully completed the program in the past. Since its inception in 2016, pathways to progress has served 162 families with 437 children.
