Ccira's purpose is to improve literacy instruction at all levels with diverse populations, support local councils & members in promoting and advancing literacy, recognize & honor significant contributions to & achievements in literacy, to be a respected & viable voice in literacy conversations and decisions in co, advocate for policies & practices that support the best for all learners, and encourage lifelong habits & appreciation. Ccira's conference provides professional learning covering such topics as thinking strategies, research, response to instruction, student engagement, ell/issues of culture and poverty, and technology. Ccira uses workshops, lab classroom experiences, qualified speakers & authors, and exhibits. Ccira also conducts a young writers festival, organizes author visits to Colorado schools, provides a dvd and video library, provides parent & reading resources, and designates october as "read aloud month" in the state of Colorado, providing materials to promote this concept. Educators, students and parents throughout the state of Colorado benefit from the work of Ccira.
