Description
CeaseFire Pennsylvania organizes with communities closest to the issue, holds those in power accountable and maximizes the strengths of every member in its broad coalition understanding that the strongest work is work done by many. Over the last year, our most significant impact was defending existing gun safety laws and advocating for life-saving solutions in Harrisburg. Our efforts included beating back a proposal to allow anyone to carry a hidden firearm without a permit.

We held the largest gun violence prevention rally in Pennsylvania in years, more than 400 pennsylvanians gathered in harrisburg at marchforourlivespa to push for life-saving solutions to public health crisis that has only worsened in recent years. The rally coincided with two critical moments: the fifth anniversary of the march for our lives, and the first Pennsylvania house judiciary committee hearing on gun violence prevention in a decade - a clear indication of how the balance of power has shifted in the capitol. In may, our most significant impact was passing two bills through the Pennsylvania house of representatives on universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders, sending the bills to the pa senate with bipartisan support. We have continued to expand our capacity to hold legislators accountable to the common agenda buy hiring additional organizing staff in southeast pa. our efforts to mobilize the pennsylvanians, the public health community and survivors ultimately built support for a historic investment of 105 million in violence reduction programs as part of the state budget.
