Center for Black Educator Development aims to secure equity in recruiting, training, hiring, and retention of quality educators that reflect the cultural background and share common socio-political interests of the students they serve. The center's Freedom Schools Literacy Academy models an education justice framework by connecting students to their birthright and civil right culture of literacy while engaging them in critical reflection on their lives and racial identity.

Program areas at Center for Black Educator Development

Teaching pathways-is the freedom school literary academy freedom schools literacy academy is a 4 week summer program offered virtually and in philadelphia to provide college aged individuals and high school students opportunities to explore and deepen their interest in becoming not just teachers, but Educator activists. As apprentices, they provide rising 1st through 3rd grade scholars with literacy intervention and an affirming space that celebrates their culture and racial identity. All fsla participants are eligible for the centers Black teacher pipeline fellowship that provides academic support, professional Development, scholarships to college aged individuals and retention stipends once they've entered the education field.
Policy and advocacy- pipeline podcast
Professional learning- provides training and support for Black educators, designed by Black educators, this is predominately done through the Black male Educator conference which is an annual conference and also contract revenue/fee for service.
