Center for Dispute Settlement promotes and utilizes peaceful dispute resolution processes throughout communities. It conducts police and community outreach information sessions, trains police cadets and sworn officers, handles police complaint inquiries, processes and monitors formal police complaints. It also trains mediators according to NY's unified court systems mediator standards to provide core services as third party neutrals in mediation, arbitration, and fact finding. The center educates individuals on options to resolve conflicts peacefully.

Program areas at Center for Dispute Settlement

Mediation/arbitration/neutral oversight - funds are used to process 1,841 cases as recorded by the unified court system in an 8-county service area of the 7th judicial district of new york state; providing services to the court system as well as the community; serving approximately 4,600 individuals. The Center also provided neutral oversight to 116 surrogate decision making cases, serving 116 clients.
Training & volunteer coordination - funds are used to train mediators, according to the nys unified court systems mediator standards, in order to provide our core service as third party neutrals in mediation, arbitration and fact finding; to educate individuals, community groups, school administrators and students in conflict resolution, mediation, effective communication and management of strong emotions; to provide team building and enhanced employee relations to improve the workplace environment in businesses and organizations; serving approximately 918 volunteers, students and community leaders.
