Program areas at Center for Health Care Rights
Center for Health Care Rights contracts with the City of Los Angeles Department of Aging and Los Angeles County Aging & Disabilities Department to provide Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) services to residents of Los Angeles County. These services include free education, counseling, informal advocacy and legal services to Medicare beneficiaries and those soon to be enrolled in Medicare. In 2022-2023, our staff and volunteer counselors provided one-on-one education, counseling and advocacy to 6,926 individuals through our telephone hotline and in-person at sites throughout Los Angeles County including 508 people who were provided with legal services with the assistance of our attorneys. We reached 27,718 residents through 235 educational and outreach events with topics including general Medicare information, Medicare fraud prevention, and programs for low-income individuals. In addition to assisting people in making informed decisions about Medicare, our work resulted in cost savings of over $468,000 to our clients.
