Campaignscpd's campaigns program runs campaigns in concert with our affiliate network organizations to ensure our communities have access to good schools, affordable housing, quality healthcare, equal opportunity for immigrants, criminal justice reform, greater corporate accountability, a resilient and fair economy, and a robust and responsive Democracy. In 2023, cpd worked with 48 affiliates and other partners to win over 40 policy victories for millions of people at the federal level, and across more than a dozen states.
Executive office programsexecutive office programs in 2023 included the network management program, the forge organizing journal, and special cultural initiatives. It also included hosting cpd's third people's convention, which brought over 1,200 affiliate members, affiliate staff, and cpd staff together from across the country in a large-scale convention to learn and plan together. In 2023, cpd's network management team provided support and capacity-building to cpd's network of 48 affiliates, including providing coaching and technical assistance in the areas of data management, organizing flow, and member leadership to the network, publishing and maintaining an ongoing calendar of engagement and action opportunities for affiliates in the network, and organizing and convening network meetings with senior staff from affiliates to strategize and plan around key priorities. The forge is an online journal and community for organizers. The forge strengthens the field of organizing by creating space for organizers across traditions to reflect, learn, and strategize, and by generating conversation and collaboration among organizers through publishing learnings and responses. It produces issues of an online journal, special series, standalone articles, interviews, public events, panels and roundtable discussions, and other media. In 2023, the forge published over 80 articles on its website on various topics, including racial justice, racial equity, building resilient organizations, and youth organizing.cpd's cultural initiatives integrate art and strategic messaging to amplify campaign themes like housing, climate, and healthcare. In 2023, cpd collaborated with multiple artists and hosted or participated in over 20 events and festivals to promote its mission.
Base-buildingcpd's base-building program provides direct field capacity to our network of organizations and helps them build their membership and leadership. Cpd's organizers and trainers work alongside affiliate leaders to achieve our collective goals of growing our shared base, developing the leadership of impacted people, and increasing the movement's resilience and impact over time. In 2023, cpd trained hundreds of affiliate organizers, leaders, and staff across 25 affiliate organizations on best practices in community organizing, hosted field organizer trainings for 411 new organizers, held new leader orientations, and ran a member academy for 958 affiliate members. We also developed the donas (immigration) academy and climate defenders academy for 700 member leaders across 17 affiliates, held 16 in-person regional multi-affiliate trainings and organizing blitzes, and launched a canvass cohort and trained 65 canvass managers and field directors to support year-round membership and issue canvass programs.
