Program areas at Center for the Empowerment of Families
CEF professional artists join lived experience mentors to provide healing arts instruction including ceramics, media arts, and mentorship for youth residents of LA County detention facilities, as assigned by the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture.
Teaching artists, licensed professionals and lived experience mentors provide school and community based therapeutic instruction for community members to explore sensory dynamics that affect mindful thinking.
Students identified experiencing grief and loss of a primary caregiver/parent create culturally relatable art mediums in remembrance of their loved one. This process encourages legacy building experiences, personal healing journeys, resilience and life cycle processes. Facilitators are professional potters and licensed therapists.
