Program areas at The Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts
The Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts' (CSNTM) core program is the digitization of New Testament manuscripts. In 2023, we digitized manuscripts at the Museum of the Bible warehouse in OKC and the INTF Bible Museum in Munster, Germany. We also began the first phase of a digitization project with the Bodleian Library in Oxford, UK, which will see the imaging of 105 Greek New Testament manuscripts. We also digitized several microfilm rolls of manuscripts held by the University of Birmingham, UK, and we continue to work with the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in digitizing their large collection of manuscripts on microfilm. We continue to digitize their collection of historic documents related to the International Greek New Testament Project (IGNTP.)
CSNTM provides free access to images of Greek New Testament manuscripts with the permission of the institute that owns the physical document. In 2023, all newly digitized manuscripts were made available on CSNTM's website (www.csntm.org) as well as others made publicly available by the owners. By the end of 2023, more than 2,300 image sets of manuscripts were made available on the CSNTM website. Additionally, CSNTM has completed the arduous process of redesigning its database and website to accommodate a broader range of relevant New Testament resources. The site is currently in beta testing with the full launch scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
CSNTM fulfilled its academic and educational mission in three areas. (1) In 2023, CSNTM staff presented papers at two academic conferences. (2) In 2023, four students completed their academic internships, including the opportunity to attend two academic conferences. (3) In 2023, CSNTM continued to collect literary resources for its New Testament textual criticism library. And (4), created the first lecture series intended for our large audience of non-scholars, and began hosting events to teach this new content.
