Description
The Central Arizona Land Trust preserves and protects open space, wildlife habitat, working agricultural lands, and the scenic and cultural values of North-Central Arizona for future generations. In 2021, the trust managed a federal grant for $1.75 million that was received by the US Department of Agriculture to protect 900 acres of the Orme Ranch in Central Yavapai County.

Program areas at Central Arizona Land Trust

In 2023, after five years of diligent fund raising and administrative effort, calt recorded a conservation easement funded by the us department of agriculture, natural resource conservation service protecting 900 acres of the historic orme ranch in Central yavapai county. Another conservation easement was also recorded in 2023 on the manterola ranch in coconino county funded by the department of the army compatible use buffer program. Also in 2023 calt elected three new board members representing ranching, farming and health care. Three new contractors were hired to increase organizational capacity in conservation project development and baseline documentation.through a grant from the nature conservancy of Arizona calt conducted Land owner outreach in the upper verde river watershed, as part of efforts to protect the flow of the verde river through conservation easements. Also through a grant from the nature conservancy, calt initiated conservation planning with two owners of farms on the middle verde river.as of the end of 2023 calt held seven conservation easements totaling approximately 5600 acres in yavapai, coconino and maricopa counties in Arizona. Annual monitoring of each easement to assure on-going protection of conservation values on each property, was completed in the summer of 2023. Calt continues to enjoy the support of over 1,000 citizens in Central and northern Arizona, who receive our for lands' sake newsletter which features current and future conservation projects, book reviews and a list of donors.
