Central Catholic High School was founded by Brother Florentius and the Marist Brothers of the Schools in 1935 to provide boys from Lawrence and vicinity the previously unavailable opportunity to receive a Catholic high school education. (The school embraced coeducation in 1996, admitting female students for the first time.) The early history of Central Catholic High School revolves largely around the extraordinary person of our founder, Brother Florentius, a native of Lawrence who had returned home after founding a new high school in New York to serve as principal at a grammar school.
