Programmatic grantmaking:the Institute conducts diligence on potential grants that carry out its mission through the support of programs that strengthen the field of nonpartisan organizations working to address political polarization and partisanship. Grants have been made to several other organizations, including, for example, to support the creation and development of a thoughtful, balanced, nonpartisan source of daily news and information about policy, issues and politics, and facilitate a professional development curriculum for organization leaders.
Research: the Institute conducts its own original research on the root causes, effects, and potential solutions to political polarization and partisanship. The focus of the research is on electoral reforms such as ranked choice voting, vote at home, nonpartisan primaries, and independent redistricting commissions. The Institute also engages in grantmaking to other research institutions and vendors to conduct research on similar topics.
Educational outreach: the Institute disseminates educational materials (including books, videos, op-eds, and white papers) explaining public policy issues and analyzing proposed solutions to the media, the public, policymakers, and aligned nonpartisan organizations.
