Conferences and meetingsafter a two-year delay, the CGLR Foundation hosted the great lakes economic forum in chicago from june 26-28th. Hundreds of business executives, government officials, thought-leaders, and subject matter experts from the binational great lakes economic region attended the ticketed event and discussed the most pressing socio-economic and environmental challenges facing the great lakes region. In addition to the forum, a series of business and sustainability free webinars and meetings were also hosted on a variety of topics, from water stewardship and regional decarbonization, to sustainable food systems and plastics pollution and the circular economy.
Policy, research and programsduring fiscal year 2022-23, the CGLR Foundation continued developing the circular great lakes initiative. The initiative brings companies together with government, academic, and nonprofit leaders to forge a future without material waste and pollution, starting with plastic, by closing the loop and creating circular cities, sectors and supply chains. The focus of this work in the 2022-23 timeframe was on implementing the strategy and action plan for a circular economy for consumer plastics in the great lakes released at the june 2022 great lakes economic forum. Key elements of the action plan will consider policy changes required to enable a circular economy, infrastructure modernization and technology advancements, product design recommendations, consumer engagement and education, and plastic cleanup through the great lakes plastic clean-up, a joint initiative between the CGLR Foundation and CGLR canada, a related party, as well as pollution probe in toronto, canada.
