Program areas at Charleston School of Law Foundation
The Charleston School of Law Foundation Inc. works directly with the Charleston School of Law to support its high-quality legal training and to instill a sense and commitment of public service in students. To this end, the Foundation has solicited and received gifts for scholarships and awards to recruit and retain talented students; has created special funds to support student activities such as the advocates fund for moot court and mock trail training; and creates scholarship funds with the student bar association and families in memory of students who have died such as the keith j. (kj) williams memorial fund, the jonathan "jon" victor hughes memorial fund, the catherine (cat) westbrook pride in Law memorial fund and the racial and ethnic minority scholarship fund; and seeks to retain strong students who struggle financially.
The Foundation recognizes its place as a leader in the Charleston, south carolina and regional communities. Our mission includes participating with community programs that directly respond to our mission to support high-level legal education and increased current knowledge of the Law. As an example, for years the Foundation collaborated with the Charleston Law review and the riley institute at furman to support their annual symposium.
The Foundation created the advocates fund to support our successful moot court, mock trial and Charleston Law review projects, and to encourage and fund students to participate in additional competitions. The Foundation works closely with the School's alumni to involve graduates in community and School efforts to expand career and work opportunities such as involving students in various work fairs and conferences regionally and nationally.
