Chautauqua Dance Circle

Gave Chautauqua Institution a check for $20,000 which provided dance scholarships for 5 students in the summer program. These students studied and performed at the Institution for approximately 7 weeks. Performaces were approximately weekly for 6 weeks with audiences ranging from 1,000 to 3,000. In some performances scholarship recipients danced with a resident professional companyCharlotte Ballet, and in others they danced in student-only events. This activity generated no revenue. Throughout the summer people were encouraged to become members and contribute dues so as to support scholarships the following summer. Of dues collected, 85-90% go to scholarships.

Offered dance appreciation programs of various sorts weekly, often more than one per week, throughout the nine week Chautauqua season. Additional activities to recognize dance students.

Gave a reception following the alumni dance performance on August 1, 2018. Invitees were the broader dance community including the alumni dancers and staff, President members of the Chautauqua Institution staff, and select members of the Chautauqua Dance Circle. This event was underwritten by donors at no cost to the participants. One or two much smaller but similar events were hosted.
