Program areas at Chicago Diabetes Project

Support research scientists and physicians to functionally cure diabetes. In 2023, an important goal was achieved, the FDA approved allogenic islet transportation as a treatment option for brittle type I diabetes. The next goal is to test encapsulated islets so that no long-term immunosuppression is needed. In tandem, we support the development of an unlimited source of glucose responsive insulin secreting cells. In addition, the foundation raises awareness of type I diabetes through events and assists in the purchase of research equipment.
