Casa ensures children in the foster care system are provided with the services they need to heal from trauma, and that their voices are heard in decisions about their future. Advocates stand on behalf of the Child in court, letting the judge know the Child's wishes, as well as advocating for the Child's well-being. The advocate ensures the Child's physical, emotional, and educational needs are met, and they are safe. The advocate also facilitates connection for the Child, with siblings, family, and when possible, community, and culture. The advocate is the constant person who stands by children while they are in the Child welfare system, at least 12 months, but sometimes much longer. Children in foster care are there through no fault of their own and have all their choices taken away. They need to know that someone cares and will show up for them, and that they deserve to be heard. Their advocate fills those needs.
