The Child Neurology Society (cns) is a professional organization dedicated to promoting the optimal care and welfare of children with neurological and developmental disorders. Founded in 1972, the cns has over 2,700 members, including Child neurologists and other professionals who care for children with neurological and developmental disorders.the vision of the Child Neurology Society is to create a future where children with neurological and developmental disorders have equitable access to the best care and support and where professionals who care for them are recognized and valued for their contributions to the field of Child neurology.the mission of Child Neurology Society is an inclusive professional organization whose mission is to promote the optimal care of children with neurological and developmental disorders by providing education, advocacy, and support for clinicians and researchers in Child neurology.the cns offers a diverse array of resources and programs that are tailored to the unique needs of our members. These include an annual meeting that fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing, self-assessment exams that enhance professional development, case studies and webinars that provide practical insights, job listings that connect professionals with career opportunities, research grants that fuel innovation, and other career development opportunities. The cns also advocates for policies and programs that impact children with neurological and developmental disorders and their families. It also provides resources and support to help its members navigate the complex healthcare landscape.overall, the Child Neurology Society plays an important role in advancing the field of Child Neurology and improving the lives of children with neurological and developmental disorders and their families.in late 2023, the cns welcomed dr. peter b. kang, president, upon the term completion of dr. bruce cohen.organization structure and governance:cns operates under the guidance of a dedicated board of directors composed of esteemed Child neurologists elected by active members. The board oversees the organization's strategic direction, financial stewardship, and programmatic activities. Our diverse committees, consisting of members with specialized expertise and interest, work diligently to execute various initiatives, ensuring that cns remains at the forefront of advancements in Child neurology.the commitment to excellence that permeates our organization has been vividly demonstrated through the successful revision of our bylaws. This effort ensures the adaptability and responsiveness of our governance structure, aligning it firmly with industry best practices. The meticulous restructuring of our governance model around board and committee expectations yielded an overwhelming response, with over 100 applications received for committee assignments.a significant milestone was reached through the harmonious merger of the cns and pecn, a testament to our memberships' collaborative spirit and engagement. The fall of 2023 witnessed the culmination of this effort, receiving resounding approval from both organizations, marking a historic achievement in our organizational journey.medical education and training: cns is committed to enhancing the knowledge and skills of physicians specializing in Child Neurology. We organize an annual conference that stands as a cornerstone event in the Child Neurology community. By facilitating collaboration, disseminating knowledge, and fostering connections. After seven years, the Child Neurology Society returned to beautiful vancouver, bc, canada, for the 52nd cns annual meeting and the city did not disappoint.building on past successes while listening to valuable member input on improving, we expanded our program this year to four fully packed days of learning, networking, and entertainment.with over 1,200 registrations and attendees. A record-breaking 349 accepted abstracts showcased our community's vibrancy and scholarly contributions. The reintroduction of a mobile event app further elevated the meeting experience for our members.between networking and learning, we honored our three lifetime achievement award recipients. We heard from our distinguished hower, bernard sachs, martha bridge deckla, and philip r. dodge young investigator award prizewinners.before wrapping up, we thanked outgoing president bruce cohen, md, and welcomed the new cns president, peter kang, md. We also introduced new board members soe mar, md (councilor of the midwest) and yasmin khakoo, md (councilor of the east). We congratulated monique terrell on her one-year anniversary as executive director and ceo of cns.the cns scientific program is designed by and is primarily intended for Child neurologists and professionals in other fields of study related to neurologic and developmental disorders in children and adolescents. These opportunities include:the hower award is given annually to honor a Child neurologist and member of the cns who is highly regarded as an outstanding teacher and scholar.the bernard sachs award is given annually to honor someone of international status who has done leading research in neuroscience with relevance to the care of children with neurological disorders.the roger & mary brumback lifetime achievement awards are presented to cns members in recognition of a life-long commitment to Child Neurology, patient care, and humanism in medicine.the martha bridge denckla award honors a physician-scientist (e.g., Child neurologist, neurodevelopmental disabilities physician, or related pediatric sub-specialist) of national and/or international status.the philip r. dodge young investigator award is a prestigious award for basic science or clinical research by accomplished early-stage investigators who are members of the Child Neurology society.the bernard d'souza international fellowship award is awarded annually to a Child neurologist who trained in and currently practices Child Neurology in an academic environment in a developing country.these and other initiatives underline cns's commitment to advancing knowledge and care in Child Neurology by recognizing achievements, encouraging research, and fostering professional growth.publications:the annals of the Child Neurology Society (acns). The journal publishes high-quality clinical research, patient-related articles, clinical trials, scholarly reviews, and commentaries. As an official publication of the Child Neurology Society, acns also publishes articles arising from the Society's sponsored symposia, practice guidelines, and invited lecture series, such as the bernard sachs lecture, the philip r. dodge young investigator award, and hower lecture.the annal of Neurology continues as an official flagship journal of the cns.
