Description
Child Welfare Ombudsman provides ombudsman services state-wide to children and families who are receiving child welfare services from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. The program considers and promotes the best interests of children in its duties, as dictated by 22 m.r.s.a. Sec. 4087-a. In 2022 alone, the program received 801 inquiries, leading to 83 open cases for review, while providing information or referrals for services elsewhere in 470 cases and resolving 248 cases.

Program areas at Child Welfare Ombudsman

Provided Ombudsman services under duties promulgated by 22 m.r.s.a. Sec. 4087-a. During 2023, 737 inquiries were made to the Ombudsman program. As a result, 77 cases were open for review, 422 were given information or referred for services elsewhere and 248 cases were unassigned, which results when contact is made with the program, but the individual fails to complete the intake process. Additionally, an annual report is submitted which details highlights of the program and recommendations for improvement in the Child Welfare services area of Maine department of health and human services.
