Program areas at Children's Forest of Central Oregon
- vmonos outside: vmonos outside provided culturally specific programs to 1,244 participants. Programs included teen mountain biking and ski programs, family park days, camping programs, and rock-climbing nights for bipoc (black, indigenous, people of color) community members.
Youth leadership and career pathways: provided paid internship opportunities to 25 youth (7 began their internships in june 2023), with 76% identifying as bipoc (black, indigenous, people of color), lgbtqia+, rural, and/or as having a disability. Provided ongoing career training and leadership development for 20 youth through the caldera high school diversity, equity, and inclusion club.
- school field trips and services: Children's Forest partners provided outdoor and environmental programs to 14,538 students in the 2022-2023 school year, providing 30,371 student days. The Children's Forest's naturehoods program reached 710 students over 2,840 student days, with 100% of participants being from rural and title i schools.
- partner sub-grants and training: with support from the u.s. Forest service, funded 5 special projects that connect underrepresented populations with the outdoors. Projects included watershed restoration programs for title i schools, summer camps for latinx youth and youth with disabilities, and career training opportunities. These projects reached 342 participants, over 847 participant days. Cfco also provided diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings to 162 educators/staff in our network, and coordinated a multiple equity committees attended by 30+ partners in our network. - family engagement and health: provided free family programs for 2,850 participants. With the exception of discover nature festival which occurs in bend, all programs were offered in rural communities, including the spring into nature festival in madras.
