Program areas at Chile-California Council

CHILE CALIFORNIA CONSERVATION EXCHANGE or CCCx: Through the CCCx Program, the Chile California Council seeks to support the protection of the environment by promoting the transfer of knowledge between Chile and California, through the holding of binational conferences, the production of technical reports, and the facilitation of networks. The Chile California Council has sponsored annual conferences in California in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022. During January 2023 CCCx held in Chile The Climate Crisis : Tree Ring Research and in March of 2023 Bird Conservation and Monitoring. The fomrer involved scientist and professors to study the effects of climate change on tree ring growth and in particular tree ring growth on the understudied Mediterranean climate zone. The latter utilizes state-of-the-art knowledge with respect to bird conservation and monitoring, banding and citizen science and to establish an ongoing collaborative relationship between The Institiute of Bird Population and La Red de Observadores de Aves y Vida Silvestre de Chile. Both programs developed a working foundation for future collaboration.
INNOVATION & ENTREPRENEURSHIP: During October of 2023 CCC participated in a meeting with APEC( Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation). Chilean President Gabriel Boric attended the meeting and highlighted the vital Chile-California in commercial terms and the importance of promoting the culture and societies of Chile and California.
ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT The main objective of the Chile-CA Energy Alliance is to draw up a roadmap to optimize regulatory and investment actions, which allow the reduction of CO2 emissions in the energy sector of Chile and California. As there are learning curves in favor of each one, international cooperation between Chile and California is essential. The developed Energy Alliance sought to compare the strategies of both places to achieve carbon neutrality, with the participation of the main actors in the world of science, markets, technologies, public policies, and investments. In April of 2023 the Chilean Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, visited California. A new phase of the energy tranistion aimed at decarbonizing electricity was unveiled. During the visit Minister Pardow held meetings with key California entities. California Energy Commission, The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and WATT Coalition participated in these meetings.
