Chilemass teachers program aims to improve english as a second language and also methodological skills of teachers in order to improve public education in Chile. The program takes into consideration that Massachusetts has the best public education in the nation and one of the best in the world, and that Chilemass, being located in boston, could be a bridge that helps to bring that knowledge to Chile through the creation of a program focused on teachers to improve the educational system. Training our teachers in a second language, such as english, can help generate a bilingual mentality within the country which can be a platform for attaining our economic development goals. There is reciprocity in the exchange provided in this program, as Massachusetts needs native spanish teachers for its public school system. Participants from Chile studied english and also served the local school system by shadowing and participating in classroom instruction. The program has a digital phase, in which teachers improve their languages skills with instructors from fsu, and also have classes about social emotional and maker centered learning with lesley university, to foster creativity through science and innovation. Furthermore, the program creates a cultural exchange, enriching the experience of teachers and students in both territories. In 2022, Chilemass, universidad catolica de Chile and other educational institutions financed 13 teachers or student teachers that were selected at the end of 2022 to participate in the cohort that came to boston in february 2023. In the same way, 9 student teachers from universidad catolica were selected at the end of 2023, to come to us in february 2024.
