Program areas at Asian Americans for Civil Rights and Equality
CAA's local programming nurtures the ability of immigrants to participate fully in civic life. These activities include leadership development for monolingual public school parents, employment services for limited-English proficient newcomers, outreach for immigrant legal services, and community and voter education underscoring issues that impact CAA's constituency. In addition, CAA leads advocacy to improve public policy and inform public discourse through ethnic and mainstream media, and organizes to engage elected and government officials.
Hmong Innovating Politics ("HIP"): The Organization is the fiscal sponsor for HIP, a grassroots organization in the Central Valley, California, whose mission is to advance social justice and build power with Hmong youth and families through leadership development and multi-generational community organizing. HIP's work includes civic engagement, youth organizing, communication, narrative change, and social justice coalition building.
Stop AAPI Hate is an initiative led by CAA with AAPI Equity Alliance and San Francisco State University Asian American Studies Department to address anti-Asian hate, violence, and racism. The need and demand for this work surfaced and has escalated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other Programs: CAA continues to support and contribute to a broader progressive movement for social change in multiple ways. In addition to fiscally sponsoring HIP, CAA is the fiscal sponsor for nine additional groups: The Alliance of South Asians Taking Action; APEX Express; Asian Prisoner Support Committee; Asian Refugees United; Hyphen magazine; Lavender Phoenix (formerly APIENC - API Equality Northern California); The Network on Religion and Justice; VietUnity; & The Visibility Project. Together with CAA, these groups share administrative, campaign, and movement building resources while exploring and deepening the connections that our collective members, volunteers, and staff have with one another.
