Program areas at Chiron Center
Education and Outreach Division: In 2022 Chiron continued to provide training to thousands of personnel around the nation from federal, regional, state, county, and local public service agencies through virtual platforms (Teams and Zoom) in addition to COVID-limited conferences, and workshops throughout the country. The Crisis Response Team (CRT) is now celebrating 24 years of service, supported by our monthly training and supervision of the amazing CRT volunteers in service of our community members affected by tragedy and traumatic loss. We are very proud to share that our Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force Behavioral Health, Wellness, and Resilience Program successfully completed its ninth year of service, continuing to serve as THE model related to imbedded mental health support for those combating child exploitation and sexual abuse. Additionally, Chiron continued our formal partnership with the Wildland Firefighter Foundation to provide essential mental health services to the Wildland community and their loved ones. Finally, Chirons Still Standing Equine Programs continued to provide highly effective and well-received experiential workshops and trainings throughout the year with uniformed personnel and their loved ones.
Research & Development: In 2022, Chiron continued to capitalize on our extensive and hardearned trust relationships within the public safety community to directly partner with them to identify, train, and develop critically needed peers, clinicians, and other wellness professionals who will become truly competent, highly effective, and fully capable, embedded providers of education, clinical expertise, and direct resources in support of the mental health and overall wellness of first responders and their loved ones. As we look to the future, this process of identifying, training, mentoring, and supporting this next generation of support professionals and peers remains our highest priority.
Chirons Clinical Programs Division provided mental health support to hundreds of front line responders and their loved ones from over 40 different public service agencies in 2022, related to current and past issues specific to critical incidents; acute and cumulative work-related stress; family and relationship support; illness; grief and loss; addiction; anxiety; depression; PTSD; and suicidality. Less than half of these agencies have any formal mental health support available to their personnel and their families. The rest of the services were offered pro bono or at very little cost thanks to the generous grants and donations that Chiron received during the year, allowing us to reduce barriers, and maximize access to mental health treatment and loved ones support. Chirons Crisis Response Team (CRT) Program continued to provide much needed information, support, and resources at the scene of incidents upon law enforcement and EMS request for our community members; and our Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) coordinated support efforts and/or responded to numerous critical incidents in direct support of our uniformed personnel and their loved ones including: line of duty death, mass-casualty incidents, suicides, homicides, fatal traffic collisions, fatal fires, child deaths, and officer-involved shootings.
