Program areas at Choose Outdoors

The 2023 us capitol christmas tree from the monongahela national forest in west virgina was the twelfth year Choose Outdoors served as the us forest service primary nonprofit. The project is a year round opportunity for education about our national forests and culminates in several high profile events along the way from the forest to the west lawn of the us capitol. Thousands of hand made ornaments, quilted tree skirts and locally provided refreshments all helped to draw attention to the many benefits of our forests.
Americas forests with chuck leavell captures the breadth of our nations woodlands both public and private. We feature different stories that demonstrate how vital forest habitats are to the well-being and economic health of communities across the country. In this series, we present individuals who embody this passion for the woods, from architects to artists, from climbers to carpenters. We celebrate americas forests and advocate for their constructive management. We have also developed a communications campaign centered on a broadcast television documentary series for pbs and multi-faceted social media outreach.
