Program areas at Choshen Farm
EDUCATION: Choshen Farm operates Fimpulu Christian School. The school educates 430 students from the surrounding villages in 10 classes from preschool through grade six. The school employs 19 Zambian teachers, 2 librarians, 2 coaches, 2 groundworkers and 3 custodians. A feeding program prepared and served by 5 village cooks provides a daily lunch for all students.
CAMP & CONFERENCE CENTER: Choshen Farm operates a camp & conference retreat center. They host a small number of Choshen Farm led conferences, but mainly rent the facilities to local churches and outside organizations. Camp staff include 3 camp hosts and 2 cleaner/cooks.
AGRICULTURE: Choshen Farm operates a working farm that employs 8 village farm workers. The farm raises chickens for food sales to the community and to support the feeding program at Fimpulu Christian School. The Farm operates a livestock reserve co-op that boards goats and pigs for the villagers and returns the profit to the members. This allows village crops to flourish without damage from free-range animals. The Farm educates and encourages local farmers to grow maize, soya beans and ground nuts. These crops are purchased by the Farm for cooking oil production and animal feed for the livestock reserve.
CHURCHES: Choshen Farm partners with 50 local pastors by providing assistance to churches and offering programs that provide Biblical training at the Conference Center. Choshen Farm contributes to church building projects and a pastor's library.
COMMUNITY HEALTH: The community health initiative partners with the local clinic to provide follow-up care particularly to patients with wounds and burns needing more continual attention. Additionally, the food security initiative is folded into community health via its emphasis on household nutrition. The feeding program at the school specifically serves lunch to 400 children per day and 30 expecting mothers that are housed near the school. Choshen continues to serve also as an ambulance to the closest hospital.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: As financial needs arise, Choshen Farm provides benevolence assistance to villagers for household repairs.
