Program areas at Christmas in the City
Christmas in the City Event - The organization transports over 4000 children and 1600 parents from the homeless shelters to the largest convention center in Boston for a day long holiday celebration. The program includes a full course dinner, a giant stage with non-stop entertainment, interactive exhibits from museums, professional entertainers and a full amazement park with rides, petting a petting zoo, pony rides, sleigh rides, firetrucks and more. Each child receives a new backpack filled with hats, mittens, stuffed animals, books and toys. Each child also relieves a wrapped present selected from their individual wish list. Over 2500 volunteers are utilized to create these life long holiday memories.
Other Programs including: General Program and Career Fair. As part of the family in transition program, Christmas in the City held their inaugural yearly job fair. Over 25 companies and 150 applicants participated, with at least 3 participants receiving jobs.
Family Events - Families are supported financially, emotionally, and with a variety of professional services to help them successfully transition from homelessness to independent living. 20 families are supported and monitored over the course of the year. A subset of this program is the provision of free physical therapy and training for inner high school students.
