Program areas at Cielo Project at Radio Ranch
Cielo education programs: Cielo's educational programs provide a wide array of classes in english and spanish. These include: english language learning (ell), adult basic education in spanish(pre-literacy to high school), ged preparation, citizenship exam preparation, sewing (basic to advanced), and certified computer instruction. In 2022 - 2023 we served over 689 community members with many dedicated volunteers from the community. As we continued into our 2nd year working through covid, Cielo served the community remotely to support our latinx, indigenous, and immiigrant community through education, advocacy, and community navigation programs.
Though we were still operating in part remotely, we continued to serve thecommunity monthly by providing them with food from our partners at the food bank. We served 215 families in 2023, and the need continuesto increase. With the suppoert of the thurston county food bank, our olympia food bank continues to serve the community monthly. The number of families served in 2023 was approximately 445. The family fund started for family assistance in a limited and verified way based on family and home needs including emergengy housing assistance. Client services: confidential, culturally and linguistically appropriate services to latino victims of crime to include survivors of sexual assault, abuse, and domestic violence across the entire south sound region. In 2022 - 2023 we served over 126 clients with free therapy, advocacy, support groups, and sexual assault prevention groups. Because our clients experience multiple and complex needs, our services go beyond mainstream therapeutic intervention. Our advocacy team addresses a client's immediate crisis, helps them navigate available medical and legal aid services, and connects them to appropriate community resources. We empower latinos to overcome the many barriers and disparities they face when they are victims of crime. Cielo also provides a range of mental health and counseling services for spanish-speaking clients covered by insurance and referred by the state department of children, youth, and families (dcyf). These include: crisis family intervention services for parent-teen conflict, individual mental health counseling, family preservation services for parents and children separated by the courts, and a positive parenting program for building healthy family relationships. In 2022 - 2023 we served clients throughout thurston, mason, and lewis counties. Our team's strength based perspective assists each individual and family to renew their sense of honor and self-respect, encouraging them to recognize that it is not only their problems that define them.
