Program areas at Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship

Adaptive recreational riding:adaptive recreational Riding is taught in group Riding lessons. Riders with varying types and degrees of disabilities can be as young as four years old and continue through adulthood. Each class of two to four riders is taught by a path, intl. Certified instructor. Each rider has a volunteer horse leader and up to two volunteer side walkers. Participants develop Horsemanship skills while simultaneously experiencing the joy of Riding and accruing Therapeutic benefits both cognitive and physical. Additionaly, participants learn how to care for horses by participating in grooming, tacking and untacking, and benefit emotionally from the bond they form with them.
Miniature horse: Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding is committed to improving lives of individuals impacted by developmental and physical disabilities through equine assisted therapies and activities.
Hippotherapy:hippotherapy derives from the greek word for horse, "hippos." The horse becomes the therapy table for riders with more extensive disabilities. Individualized appointments are led by specially trained and certified occupational therapists and physical therapists to achieve specific, functional outcomes in the riders which manifest themselves in everyday activities like hygiene, eating, playing and communicating. Each rider has a volunteer horse leader and a volunteer side walker assisting the therapist.
