Program areas at CBC
Nonpartisan research on the finances, operations, and policies of new york city and new york state governments, with the goal of promoting sound fiscal and management practices. Cbc conducts research on a number of topics, including fiscal management, rainy day funds, service efficiency, mta capital planning and operating efficiency, housing production and land use decisions, economic development and energy policies, health spending, as well as ongoing monitoring of the city and state budgets.
Dissemination of information to the public, policy makers and the policy community through the publication and distribution of cbc research reports, hosting public forums to promote discussion and educate new yorkers on public policy issues, testimony submitted to legislative bodies, letters to officials, and analysis and commentary in prominent media outlets. Topics included: how to stabilize the new york city and new york state budgets; how to design an effective cap-and-trade system; how to improve prioritization and financing of the next metropolitan transportation authority capital program; risks and remedies to population loss for nyc; education spending; city and state reserve policies. . (continued on schedule o)(continued from page 2, part iii, line 4b) cbc held 15 events in 2023. 13 of the events featured speakers, including: the nyc and nys Budget directors; the metropolitan transportation authority chair and ceo and the mta president of construction; the nys governor; the nyc first deputy mayor; the nyc sanitation commissioner; the nyc economic development corporation ceo; the speaker of the new york city council; nys's economic development ceo; and the nys director of operations. Lastly, cbc held two conferences with panelists: one on the new york state Budget process and the other on out-migration in nyc.
