Program areas at Citizens for Blueprint Houston
Plan Houston: Blueprint Houston applied for and received a $200,000 grant from Houston Endowment Inc to support the City's Planning and Development Department in engaging a consultant to develop the basis for a general plan. Plan Houston was adopted by Houston's City Council in September 2015.
General Plan: In the summer of 2014, Mayor Parker appointed three citizen committees: Steering Committee to review and direct policy; Stakeholders Committee to respond to planning ideas; and Technical Advisory Committee to review techniques and actions. The chair of Blueprint Houston serves on the Steering Committee as do three other members of the board in different capacities. A committee of the board continues to consult with the Director of Planning and Development as the process moves forward. At the City's request, Blueprint Houston applied for a grant to support the consultant team hired to work with the Department of Planning and Development in creating the General Plan. The grant application was successful and funding arrived in 2015.
Mayoral Candidate Forum: Blueprint Houston interviewed all candidates for Mayor during the spring and summer of 2015. In September 2015, Blueprint Houston, along with the invited support of a dozen civic organizations, hosted a candidate forum. All active candidates participated. The Forum was moderated by a spokesman of Houston Public Radio, was broadcast live on Houston Media Source, and interpreted for the deaf.
