Program areas at Our Stomping Ground

We provide over 100 hours of free monthly public programming which is available not only to osg residents but also their fellow residents, their local neighbors, and the disability community. Our approach includes multiple vital components: 1) secure permanent affordable housing for adults with disabilities by collaborating with the va dept of behavioral health & developmental svcs (dbhds)and the arc of northern va. we communicate when and where apartment openings occur to the 1500+ people who get newsletters; 2) facilitate seamless integration for adults with disabilities into the broader community. We achieve this by actively organizing residents and collaborating with local organizations to establish a robust support network and provide meaningful activities for them and their neighbors; 3) co-create programs with osg participants. We make services and programs flexible to participants' needs by including them in the idea creation and design process. We support participants in making their ideas successful - whether it is job training, a college course, joining a gym, or starting a dinner group. This approach is key to building life skills and social engagement in real time, not a classroom; 4) welcome and engage all community members in activities such as yoga, book clubs, park clean up, walking groups, and more. We do this to exemplify what the future of inclusion looks like; 5) advocate for adults with disabilities in partnership with many organizations including the arc, community services boards, and va's interagency housing advisory committee(ihac)
