Fresno County Youth Summit: CEC took 30 high school students to Wonder Valley Ranch for a two-day retreat where they had the opportunity to dialogue issues an identify youth civic engagement priorities and come up with possible solutions. They discussed issues in their schools and communities and selected topics like school reform, sexual violence, lack of student voice representation, ethnic studies and more.Youth Civic Service Showcase: The top 12 student civic engagement projects in Fresno County presented their projects on the stage of the Tower Theater in May. These included a Sweet Potato Project (growing nutritious food and product sales in West Fresno), a drug abuse prevention project, and a Bill of Rights for Students. This will be an annual event to recognize the top service projects and to motivate other students to participate. It is essential to highlight exemplary projects and reward students for their contribution and service.CONTINUE Civic Education Summer Institute: Its a 3-day conference for secondary teachers and administrators at Fresno Pacific University North Fresno Campus on June 27-29, 2022 from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. Goals include: (a) Teach the vision of the Founders and the triumphs and tragedies of our history; (b) Teach civil dialogue on controversial issues and democratic deliberation; (3) Integrate science, technology, literature, media, arts and math with civic projects; (4) To promote teacher understanding of connections with the State Seal of Civic Engagement, Social Emotional Learning and Ethnic Studies.
