Description
Civil Rights Corps challenges routine practices that enable mass incarceration, including the near-universal reliance on money bail, the growing use of fines and fees to fund the criminal system, prosecutorial misconduct, and more. Their mission is to shift power to community-led movements, particularly those led by Black and Brown people who are most affected by this legal system, so they can build sufficient power to create structural change. They are located in Washington, DC.

Program areas at Civil Rights Corps

Civil Rights Corps is a national non-profit organization that challenges systemic injustice in the us legal system. We have pioneered landmark national Civil Rights litigation that has freed thousands of people from illegal jailing, won substantial monetary damages for the most vulnerable people in our society, and set the agenda for innovative solutions to make our communities safer. Civil Rights Corps works hard to be an actively engaged ally to local and national movements to end mass criminalization, and to replace systems with alternative community safety mechanisms that enable people and communities to flourish.
