Clay County Farm Bureau funds the Emerging Leaders in Agriculture Program. This program mirrors the YF & R Leadership program, but is administered to youth in grades 9 thru 12. Youth complete leadership- training curriculum, tour farms, visit Tallahassee and meet with legislators to discuss ideas on how to improve agriculture education within their schools, agriculture policy and learn how the legislature works. This program aligns with our mission to promote good ag policy by introducing and educating youth on how the legislative process works.
Clay County Farm Bureau Showdown in the Springs Swine Show at the Clay County Fairgrounds brought 200 participants. Program volunteers included Clay County Farm Bureau members, IFAS, Cattlemen's, FFA, and 4-H members. Youth participants entered this show to compete for best market hog and showmanship. It was an opportunity for youth to learn best management practices (feeding programs, medical care, grooming, housing and finances) for the care of swine from birth to show day.
During the Clay County Fair, we conducted an Ag Ventures program, Ag Town at the Fair, which provided a hands on education experience for all students attending the county fair. During the 10 day event we have several volunteers helping with various displays and demonstrations on horticulture, poultry, swine, and cattle. This event helps us have broader and education the younger generation about the how important agriculture is to our community and its impact.
