The Cleantech Education Foundation aims to provide educational events, training programs, seminars and workshops that accelerate and support the growth of San Diego's cleantech cluster. Additionally, it carries out charitable and educational activities associated with this goal. The foundation leads Southern California Energy Innovation Network (SCEIN), a California Energy Commission-funded program that helps startups with electric energy focused technologies in San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, and San Bernardino.

Program areas at Cleantech Education Foundation

Southern California energy innovation network (scein), a program led by Cleantech san diego, is a California energy commission-funded program to support startups with electric energy focused technologies in san diego, imperial, riverside, and san bernardino counties. The program provides free resources through a consortium of regional partner organizations to help energy entrepreneurs successfully bring their innovations to market and help meet California's clean energy and climate goals. As of july 2021, 54 companies have been served by the southern California energy innovation network, 38 of which are currently active in the program. Together, these startups employ over 320 people and have raised more than $162 million in combined follow-on public and private capital since being accepted into the program.union bank grant: the funds will be used to support the southern California energy innovation network and specifically to sponsor an event/prize competition which will highlight the clean energy entrepreneurs in the program and provide prize funding to the top presenters for each category (early stage, middle state, late stage). The competition will be attended by local business leaders, elected officials, and community members and will be held in november. The competition will be judged by 3-6 judges and will include a representative from union bank, the local utility (sdg&e), energy technology leaders, community leaders and Cleantech capital providers.
