Freedom to Vote: Program Objectives: worked to educate citizens on how to register to vote and participate in the elections. Program Services: 1. Open Democracy organized High School voter registration drives and workshops to teach students to run their own drives. 2. Recruited volunteers to step up and fill roles as election workers, as supervisors of the checklist or to work as ballot clerks or nonpartisan poll observers. Accomplishments: 1. Working with The Civics Center, Open Democracy helped to increase the number of 18-year olds in NH who registered to vote, bringing the percentage from 12% to 15.6%. 2. Designed and held the First Annual Democracy Festival, held in August. The Festival brought together many civic related organizations to provide information, speakers and entertainment to a large audience.
Keeping Alive the Granny D Haddock Legacy and Her Reform Messages Program: Objectives: Making sure that Coalition for Open Democracy Founder Doris ?Granny D? Haddock is remembered as the inspirational NH icon that she is for walking 3,200 miles across the country at age 90 for the cause of reforming campaign finance laws to get the big money out, showing what the power of one can do at any age, and bringing to light her many words of wisdom. Program Services and Accomplishments: 1. Honored the legacy of Doris Granny D Haddock 2. Conducted the annual Granny D Walk 3. Continuing work to restore Granny D?s colorful van ?Rosie" that she used to travel the country to register voters and for traveling programs to promote political equality.
Fair and Transparent Elections: Program Objectives: Open Democracy worked to educate citizens about how much money is in elections. Program Services: 1. Research and analysis of campaign finance reports 2. Held educational programs, forums and workshops. Accomplishments: Our team members took hundreds of actions including writing letters to the editor, tabling at events and educating neighbors. Our book club read and discussed 4 books about strengthening our democracy. The Open Democracy Book Club has more than 600 members.
