Program areas at ColaborativoPR
Our main goal is that Puerto Rico?s youth affected by poverty and inequalities will have the opportunities to access and succeed at a postsecondary education that will lead to a better career and quality of life, thus improving the economic outlook of Puerto Rico. ColaborativoPR is trying to achieve this goal by preparing and providing the necessary tools, to disadvantaged and marginalized high school students, to be ready for postsecondary studies, making sure they are admitted to, register and attain a postsecondary degree. Our model focuses in three areas: University Life Planning, Academic Achievement and Socialemotional Development. We have been able to provide our participants with the academic counseling sessions, university visits, local college entrance exam review and assist with feeling out the FAFSA and Socialemotional Program align to our postsecondary degree attainment goals. Some of our achievements for 2022-2023 include 1104 students from Lo?za have participated in the College Access and Success Program. 85% average participation for the six college counseling sessions (93% of the school registration was seen at least once by our college counsellors). 70% participation for the University visits (lower participation because visits were done later in the semester, this has been taken in consideration for the following year) A total of 35- SEL lessons were offered to 10th-12th graders. Five lessons were offered to each grade, each grade has seven classrooms between both schools. 81% of the 2023 graduating class cohort of Lo?za?s two high schools applied to a total of 18 postsecondary institutions in Puerto Rico. A total of 144 applications were submitted, 54% were targeted towards the Private System and 46% aimed at the Public System.
