In doing so, the fiscal year ending june 30, 2023 garnered approximately $20.6 million in total commitments.several points of pride emerge from the Foundation's fy23 accomplishments: a total of 9,249 donors supported the College, an increase of 2% from the previous fiscal year $7.1 million in cash, stock and in-kind receipts 47 new restricted funds and 25 new endowment funds were created $4.1 million secured in estate intentions corporate and Foundation relations led the constituencies in new commitments with $7.7 million friends of the College donors were second only to corporate and Foundation relations among constituencies, with more than $5.3 million in commitments alumni were the third most generous constituency with $4.4 million in commitments the commitments by faculty and staff were $529,446 approximately 1,025 students received more than 1,350 scholarships funded through philanthropy from more than $5.4 million made available in scholarships and awardsthe third annual cofc day took place january 26, 2023 and was another success, raising a total of $6.7m+ in total commitments from nearly 2,250 donors. Cofc day is not only a successful fundraising drive but is also a way to instill pride and spirit into the hearts and minds of alumni, parents, friends, faculty/staff and students. The following are examples of the commitments that sustain the College's efforts to provide excellence in education:scholarships/awards a donor committed $750,000 from her estate to support her established scholarships. A Foundation donor pledged $230,000 to support a named scholarship, which provides financial assistance. Their total giving to the cofc Foundation is nearly $3 million since the 1980s. Mark and lyn michels committed $100,000 from their estate to establish the michels family endowed scholarship.libraries the mellon Foundation awarded a $2 million dollar grant to the avery research center for african american history and culture to support the collection and preservation of documents, artifacts, stories, photographs and all other materials related to the avery. A donor committed $250,000 in her estate to support the lowcountry lgbtq+ documentation project through special collections at addlestone library. William estes gifted the College a charles hamilton smith (flemish 1776-1859) collection of original manuscript pages with watercolor illustrations of the americas, valued at $175,200. Stephanie quick committed $100,000 from her estate to support the jewish heritage collection. Peter frank gifted the College the personal papers of author dorothea benton frank, valued at $100,000, which includes manuscript drafts, writing work, research files, and correspondence. School of the arts phyllis jestice committed $348,037 from her estate to support the music department fund. William gaud gave $66,863 to support the frances grimball gaud professor of art. Janet haughey gave $50,000 to support the school of the arts dean's excellence fund. Valerie morris pledged $50,000 to establish the boris bohun-chudyniv endowed scholarship in arts management in memory of her late husband.school of languages, cultures, and world affairs the samuel freeman charitable trust gave $157,500 to support the international scholars program. The lawrence e. steinberg Foundation gave $100,000 to support the oliver steinberg scholarship for students in the jewish studies program.athletics founders federal credit union pledged $2.1 million to support the construction of the founders baseball performance center at the College of Charleston's baseball facilities at patriots point athletics complex, the largest athletics gift in the College's history. An anonymous donor pledged $250,000 to the men's basketball competitive excellence fund, with total fy23 pledges for the fund totaling more than $1.4 million dollars. Robert clawson, jr. Gave $100,000 to support the robert g. clawson, jr. endowed scholarship and the robert g. clawson, iii endowed scholarship, both of which support student athletes at the College. Multidisciplinary programs edward tuccio '91 and kimberly tuccio pledged $787,500 for the renovation of the edward j. tuccio '91 student success center at 58 george street, which will house the career center and other student-focused resources.
