Program areas at Colorado Jobs with Justice
Aurora:colorado Jobs with Justice identified and activated worker leaders in the city of aurora. The goal in aurora was twofold. One was to build a workers table of worker leaders who can organize around various issues in their communities. The second was to connect, activate, and engage workers in a rent control fight that co jwj is working on as part of the Colorado homes for all coalition. The coalition worked to target different state legislators to support the repeal of the ban on rent control in the last legislative session. Jobs with Justice is committed to challenging corporate landlords and building power for working-class tenants in Colorado, and that is why we were reaching out to tenants in aurora to learn more about their experiences.
Gig program: cojwj has worked with Colorado independent drivers united, organizing app-based drivers in denver. Given concerns about gig companies willingness to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in places like California and Massachusetts to pass policies protecting their bottom line, cojwj undertook a study to quantify better drivers experiences for policymakers and the general public.
Western area planning: the city of denver is conducting a planning process with developments ranging from housing, transportation, parks and recreation, and public safety. The changes will impact our communities over the next 40 years. West colfax area of denver is home to a predominantly latinx population. We are committed to ensuring the plan addresses the real needs of our people, that the communitys voice is heard, particularly those who have been left out of these conversations in the past, and that west denver is a place where everyone can thrive for decades to come. We surveyed over 500 community members for the information detailed in our community voices and the future of west denver report
