Women's Health Camp in Khaniyabas (Dhading District): we conducted a follow-up camp to the one held in Feb. 2020. Ninety-six women participated in this new camp led by gynecologists from Model Hospital in Kathmandu; 43 women had attended the first camp and 43 were new participants. Twenty-four women in total were advised to come to Kathmandu for procedures, surgery, or further surgical consultation (this included free transportation for the patient and a companion, free food and housing for the patient and companion, and free medical treatment). Seventeen women travelled to Model hospital, with nine receiving major gynecologic surgery (vaginal hysterectomy with pelvic floor repair). Two women also needed complete perineal tear repair, and two received surgical consultation for rectal prolapse surgery. Treatments also included removal of cervical polyps and vulvar biopsies for leukoplakia. The remainder of the cases from the health camp had vaginal infections and chronic gastritis and received medical treatment without needing to travel to Kathmandu.
Colorado Nepal Alliance is frequently contacted by organizations in the Front Range of Colorado. These include government offices, hospitals, and translation services. We have provided translators for Nepali families in physical or mental health crises, and have helped healthcare providers understand Nepali culture. We supported FEMA and Boulder county in identifying Nepali victims of the Marshall fire so that information could be supplied to them in the Nepali language.
Our Shoes for Sherpas program sent shoes to the Solokhumbu region of Nepal with a local Colorado NGO Hike for Help, led by Lhakpa Sherpa. His group distributed 233 pairs of footwear to local residents. His group was able to transport the bags of shoes at no cost to Colorado Nepal Alliance.
